Ok I suspect that 1 the cory may have been weak 2 the new fish caused an NH3 spike though you say you didnt see one so maybe not and 3 the acclimation may have contributed to shock. You dont need to do a massive water change. You might want to do 25.
It would seem necrotising pieces can cause Corydoras to die as they are the first to come across it and perhaps filter it through their gills more than any other species of fish. As for the Corydoras that didnt die I would say it has had a lucky escape. So the first three cory catfish Ive gotten have all died within a week of each other.
The first beginning symptoms of them about to die was they would lay on the bottom and wouldnt move around and wouldnt eat anything. The first three were green cory catfish. I later got 2 peppered catfish.

One of my dear old Cory Catfishes died today and Im very sad about the poor fishs death. But what is confusing me here is to WHY the fish died. So the Cory Catfish doing the poop cleaning is still going to poop in your tank.
You may end up having a lot to clean. Not just that most of the nitrogenous wastes Ammonia for example are passed out through the gills and not as poop. While you may be happy your Cory Catfish is picking poop all around what do you do to the excreted Ammonia.
The various species feed on different types of prey depending on where they live. Their diet changes based on what is available nearby. Most species are carnivorous or omnivorous though they feed primarily on invertebrates.
Some common prey items include. The cory catfish are especially susceptible to nitrate levels and you should test the water frequently to ensure they are at 0ppm. When kept in poor water conditions it is common for the fish to develop barbel infections that manifest as white spots around the mouth.
Cory Catfish FoodDiet and Feeding. The main source of food for wild cory catfish is bottom-dwelling insects larvae and various worms as well as some plant matter. They also eat flesh from dead fishes although they are omnivorous and not piscivorous.

Cory Catfish are not picky eaters and are interested phenomenal. Do Cory Catfish Eat Algae. Cory catfish do eat algae and can help limit a small amount of it in your aquarium.
However they are the furthest thing there is from great algae eaters and only skim through the algae. Therefore you are better placed with other catfish and pleco species like suckermouth cats if you have a major algae problem on your hands.
